Marriages and Marriage Licensing


In order to support the importance of physical distancing and reduce the spread of COVID-19, Marriage Licence Applications will be accepted electronically only

At this time, applications will be accepted from West Nipissing residents only. We will not be serving residents from other municipalities during this time. 

Please complete the Marriage Licence Application and submit by email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and jdupuis@westnipissing  with the following:

  • Scanned copies of the front and back of all required identificaton
  • Electronic copies of any Divorce Judgment, death certificate, or other documentation

Please refer to Procedure and Requirements for required identification and documentation.

Once electronic documents are received, the licence will be prepared and the applicant will be called for an appointment to sign and obtain the licence. Only one applicant may attend the appointment. 

If the ceremony does not proceed due to ongoing distancing restrictions, there will be no refund for the licence. Please have a back-up plan, or wait until closer to the confirmed marriage date to find out if it is possible to proceed.

How to obtain a Marriage Licence

Please note:  Marriage Licences are issued by the Municipality by appointment only by calling  705-753-2250.  Refer to the following Procedure and Requirements for step-by-step instructions.

Any person 18 years of age or older may marry in Ontario.  Any person who is 16 or 17 years of age may marry with written consent from his/her parents or legal guardians - please contact this office for details.  Marriage Licences can only be issued to the applicant or joint applicant.

Both parties must complete and sign the Marriage Licence Application - also available at the Municipal Office. Each applicants is required to provide two original pieces of identification. Consult the Procedures and Requirements below for all details.  The fee for the licence is $100.00 (cash, cheque or debit).

Marriage Ceremonies

The Municipality of West Nipissing also offers the service of performing marriage ceremonies; either at the Municipal Office or at another venue, as arranged.

The fee to be charged for the solemnization of a marriage by the Clerk's Office is as follows:

Ceremony :

During normal office hours (9 am – 4 :30 pm), for a ceremony performed in the municipal office.
