November 13, 2018 | Best Practices for Plowing Gravel Roads

November 13, 2018

West Nipissing plows are hard at work following the snow accumulation on municipal roads.

As per best practices in gravel road maintenance, snow-packed or frozen grounds are required prior to plowing. This practice is essential in protecting the roads from significant damage and is only necessary when grounds are very wet and soft.

During the first snowfall, many gravel roads were saturated due to the mild and wet Fall weather. Consequently, they could not be plowed until an adequate level of snow compaction was reached.

The Municipality appreciates the community’s cooperation and asks that residents drive safely, and according to conditions. The Public Works Department is committed to resident safety and appropriate road maintenance. The team continues to follow the Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways regulated by the province of Ontario.
