A Community Sharps Bin has been installed in West Nipissing as part of a partnership between the Municipality of West Nipissing, the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) and the West Nipissing General Hospital's Alliance Centre.

Located near the intersection of Main and Queen Street in Sturgeon Falls, the bin will be accessible 24 hours a day and will be a place for people to safely discard sharps. The tamper-proof bin is secure and well-identified for the disposal of sharps.

The Municipality will assume ownership and all ongoing maintenance costs of the bin. The bin will be monitored and emptied regularly, and disposal and transportation of the sharps will be serviced by ECS Cares.

Council voted in support of the bin in response to the Health Unit's report on a large number of needles collected in Sturgeon Falls during a needle buy-back program in November 2019.

The Municipality would like to thank the Health Unit and the Alliance Centre for their partnership and their dedication in helping keep the community safer for everyone.

Please respect the Community Sharps Bin and the people who use it.

For information, residents can contact the Health Unit at 1-800-563-2808, or visit myhealthunit.ca/communitysharpsbin
