Please be advised that all burning permits are now suspended until further notice (permits may be extended or money refunded). As of Tuesday, August 9th, 2016 there is a Complete Fire Ban in the Municipality of West Nipissing.

Water Testers - Municipality Issues Notice

The Municipality of West Nipissing has received complaints regarding individuals going from door to door, identifying themselves as municipal employees. They claim to need access to the residence in order to test the water. Please be aware these individuals are not working for the Municipality. If they contact you, do not let them into your home. Please report it immediately to the West Nipissing Police Service at 705-753-1234.

Update - Verner Water Demand

The Verner water treatment plant has restored its reserves in the reservoirs, and the Municipality of West Nipissing would like to thank the community for its effort in reducing its demand.

The Municipality is reminding those on municpal water in Verner, Cache Bay, Springer and Sturgeon Falls of the lawn watering by-law (By-law 2011/500, available here.

Those with an even numbered address may water their lawn on even numbered dates, and those with an odd numbered address may water their lawn on odd numbered dates. Further, if you do water your lawn, please do so sparingly when the sun is low to minimize evaporation. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Information Technology Analyst – Part-Time

Applications are invited for the position of Information Technology Analyst, part-time for the Municipality of West Nipissing. The IT Analyst installs and maintains hardware and software, supporting end-users on a wide variety of computing issues. Reporting to the Manager of Information Technology, typical responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, assistance with maintaining internet, Wi-Fi and wired network technologies, desktop/laptop/tablet imaging, deployment and maintenance, system and network documentation, mobile tablet and cellular phone support and end-user training.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three (3) year College Diploma in computer studies
  • Three (3) years previous related work experience
  • Demonstrated ability to provide individual and in class training and develop training materials
  • Demonstrated knowledge of hardware and software deployment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of systems documentation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of TCP/IP computer networks
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Windows (7, 8, 10) and Microsoft Office (2010, 2013)
  • Ability to apply logic and troubleshooting methods to diagnose a wide range of software and hardware issues
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, communication and time management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and timelines
  • Must be bondable
  • Microsoft Windows and Cisco Certifications preferred
  • Class G Driver’s license and personal vehicle

PUBLIC WORKS MANAGER

West Nipissing is a progressive bilingual community with a population of 14,500 which is strategically located on the northern shore of Lake Nipissing between North Bay and Sudbury. It comprises a mix of both urban and rural living which is ideal for a public works practitioner with a broad range of experience.

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer you will call upon your experience and leadership capabilities to direct the Public Works Department by developing work plans, and implementing maintenance standards. An exceptional organizer, communicator and administrator, you will plan, design, monitor, construct and maintain municipal infrastructure. As an active member of the management team, you will establish the long-term direction for the department, in concert with the overall goals of the corporation. You will also keep the Chief Administrative Officer and Council abreast of developing areas of concern.

Qualifications
You bring to the position at minimum a diploma in Civil Engineering Technology and a minimum of five years progressive experience in a municipal or construction environment. You also have an excellent track record working in a unionized environment. Experience with municipal water systems is a definite asset. As a key requirement of the position is to deal with the public, the successful candidate must be bilingual.
