Water Main Flushing (Updates) - Sturgeon Falls, Verner

The water mains in Sturgeon Falls and Verner will be flushed, starting on Friday, September 15th, 2017. This takes about three (3) to five (5) weeks to complete. Please check for signs in your area, listen to the local radio station (Moose FM 99.3), or check back on this page for updates of WHEN and WHERE flushing will take place.

UPDATE - FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 15TH, 2017

Fall water main flushing will begin in Verner on Friday, September 15th, 2017 and be completed by Friday, September 22nd, 2017, weather permitting. Flushing in Sturgeon Falls will begin soon after. Watch for signs in your area.

At its regular meeting on June 20th, the Municipality of West Nipissing's Council unveiled the 9-member Executive Committee for the 2019 International Plowing Match and Rural Expo, to be held in Verner.

The RV dumping stations in Field, Sturgeon Falls and Verner are now open for the season.

Municipality Monitoring Water Levels in the Area

West Nipissing emergency services and the Public Works Department have been actively monitoring water levels in the area. Personnel will continue to monitor water levels and the Municipality will advise the public if the situation changes. Please keep an eye out on the municipal website at www.westnipissingouest.ca and on municipal Facebook and Twitter pages for updates on the matter.

The Municipality of West Nipissing has an opening for a Community Development Officer as part of the Community Services Department.  The responsibilities associated to this position will include interacting with clients, stakeholders and community partners; work closely with community groups/local businesses and engaging in community partnerships; assisting with the day to day operations of municipal facilities such as the Sturgeon River House Museum, the West Nipissing Information Centre, etc.; assist with the planning and coordination of municipal and community events and programs. 

Qualifications / Requirements:                     

  • Minimum 2 year post-secondary diploma/degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience;
  • Demonstrated writing and oral communications skills in both official languages;
  • Exceptional computer literacy and proficiency in computer programs such as; Microsoft Office suite of products including Outlook;
  • Ease and confidence in speaking with key stakeholders and community partners;
  • Detail oriented and well organized with superior multi-tasking skills;
  • Ability to work within a team as well as taking initiative and working with minimal supervision;
  • A valid class “G” driver’s license.

This is a fully supported bike ride by Cycle Works (on site bike mechanics).

The West Nipissing Cycle for Charity  grew out of our passion for cycling and the desire to promote healthy living. The West Nipissing Cycle for Charity is an annual event and all proceeds  go to an active fund raising activity.

In October of 2016 was held the first West Nipissing Cycle for Charity event. Ninety-six (96) cyclists and sixteen (16) volunteers participated in this event.  

This year’s proceeds will go to a project called BIKES FOR KIDS. This project, in conjunction with the West Nipissing Commmunity Health Centre, will give bikes to children in need.

MARINA SUPERVISOR (UP TO 3 POSITIONS)
SEASONAL, MAY TO OCTOBER 2017 (CONTRACT FOR UP TO 6 MONTHS)

The Municipality of West Nipissing is seeking to hire up to three (3) Marina Supervisors (seasonal, May to October 2017) for a contract of up to six (6) months. Hours of work are 35 hours per week and include shift work (days, evenings and weekends).

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Grade 12 diploma. Post-secondary education (business administration or related field) or relevant work experience will be considered an asset.
  • Fluent in both official languages (oral and written).
  • Effective communication skills (both written and oral) considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of computers, printers and general office equipment.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and other commonly used software.
  • Working knowledge of Internet and e-mail (ex.: e-mail, Microsoft outlook, and/or others).
  • Problem solving and decision making capabilities.
  • Standard First Aid, CPR certification will be considered and asset.
  • Sound organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to provide great customer service in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Marina and/or retail experience will be considered an asset.
  • Supervisory experience will be considered an asset.

Duties:

  • Assist the Marina Manager with the day-to-day operations of the facility.
  • Assist the Marina Manager with scheduling and prioritizing the work schedule and work activities for Marina staff.
  • Communicate with boaters and provide slip assignment.
  • Assist the Marina Manager with dock contracts for permanent and visiting boats and amphitheatre bookings.
  • Input computer data using Word, Excel, fuel tracking systems, and any other program required to ensure databases are kept current.
  • Monitor fuel levels and fuel sales and report.
  • Assist in fuelling, pump-outs and docking boats.
  • Assist with the retail operation.
  • Participate in all training.
  • Ensure cleanliness of facility and site.
  • Assist or assume a supervisory role in an Emergency Action Plan for the safety of staff, customers and the general public.
  • Complete periodic inventory counts of retail store.
  • Address and resolve concerns of public and boaters.
  • Assist with events and activities.
  • Follow all policies, procedures and guidelines practices, and Occupational Health and Safety regulations as prescribed by Council of the Municipality of West Nipissing.
  • Supervise marina attendants and report any staffing issues to the Marina Manager.
  • Prepare staff schedules and timekeeping as approved by the Marina Manager.
  • Promote the facility and maintain high standards of professional service and work towards establishing the Marina's reputation for services and customer relations as exemplary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Marina Manager.
