Proposed Permanent Closing of Portions of Road(s)

TAKE NOTICE, that the Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of West Nipissing proposes to enact a by-law to close approximately 101 metres of the unopened road allowance known locally as Holditch Street, in the Town of Sturgeon Falls, Municipality of West Nipissing as follows:

COMMENCING
Approximately 20 metres north of the intersection of Holditch Street and Second Street

ENDING
Approximately 101 metres north of the point of commencement at the point of intersection of Holditch Street with the Sturgeon River at Minnehaha Bay

A copy of the proposed by-law and supporting information for the road closure to which the by-law applies may be seen at the Municipal Office during regular business hours.

The proposed by-law will come before Council at its regular meeting to be held on the 15th day of November, 2016. At that time Council will hear in person or by his or her counsel, solicitor, or agent any person who claims his or her lands will be prejudicially affected and who applies to be heard.

This notice is given pursuant to By-law 2015/57.

Outdoor Rink Maintenance 

The Municipality of West Nipissing, through its Community Services department is seeking interested individuals for winter maintenance of outdoor rinks for the 2016-2017 season at the following locations: Cache Bay, Field, Goulard Park (rink), Goulard Park (skating oval), Lavigne and River Valley. Work to commence when weather permits.

Specications for rink operations can be obtained by contacting the undersigned. Interested individuals must submit a detailed resume and demonstrate candidate qualications, experience and motivation in operating an outdoor rink. Experience operating an outdoor rink would be considered an asset.

The Community Services Department is seeking to hire part time maintenance staff (CUPE local 535-01) to perform general janitorial and maintenance duties for municipal facilities such as office buildings, arenas, parks, playgrounds, pool, fitness centres, community halls, outdoor rinks, etc.

Qualifications / Requirements:                           

  • Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Have and maintain a valid “Class G” driver’s license
  • Must be of a physical condition that allows him/her to perform as a full working member of the construction/maintenance crew
  • Pool operator certificate or equivalent working experience
  • Ice making & maintenance certificate or equivalent working experience
  • Basic refrigeration certification
  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (C.P.R.), first aid & WHIMIS
  • Knowledge of computers/industry operating systems
  • Basic electrical, mechanical & chemical knowledge
  • Ability to operate & maintain vehicles & equipment

New Manager of Public Works Selected

We are pleased to announce that Mr. Shawn Remillard has been selected and has accepted the position of Manager of Public Works for the Municipality of West Nipissing.

Shawn is a lifelong resident and a former employee of the Municipality. He has held increasingly responsible positions having worked for us as plant operator then having served as Operations Supervisor for the City of North Bay from 2006 to 2010. He was then promoted to Operations Manager overseeing 3 supervisors and 33 full-time employees. Shawn was both directly and indirectly responsible for infrastructure reconstruction including water, sewer, storm management as well as the restoration of asphalt roadways, curbs and sidewalks.

Mr. Remillard is a proven leader who is well liked and respected by all who work with him. He will be a valuable addition to the management team in West Nipissing.

Shawn is looking forward to ”coming home” to share his expertise with the rest of the team.  He will be assuming his new role commencing Monday, September 19th, 2016.  We look forward to his contribution.
