Nature’s Trail Road Bridge Replacement
Municipal Class Environmental Assessment – Notice of Commencement
Nature’s Trail Bridge is a single-span Bailey Bridge that carries a single lane of traffic over Wolseley Bay. The bridge has an 18.3m span and an overall deck width of 3.6m. The bridge is located on Nature’s Trail Road, at the end of Wolseley Bay Road (Highway 528) in the community of Wolseley Bay, within the Municipality of West Nipissing, approximately 16km east of NoëIville. An OSIM bridge inspection conducted in 2015 recommended the subject bridge for replacement, due to its deteriorating condition. The bridge currently has load posting signs along both approaches, reducing the load capacity of the bridge.
Following a preliminary design review, detailed design is underway, which would have the existing bridge replaced with a new single-lane pre-fabricated modular steel bridge at the same location and alignment, but with an improved waterway opening. The new bridge will not have load restrictions. No temporary detour is planned, with construction intending to be carried out in the fall, pending regulatory approval.
The implementation of the bridge replacement will be per Schedule B of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process. Consultation is an integral part of the environmental assessment process, to ensure that those with an interest in this study have the opportunity to provide relevant input. Feedback from stakeholders and members of the public are being collected, which will be kept on file for use and consideration during the design of the replacement.
