A message from the Chief Administrative Officer
In recent months, there have been a series of inaccuracies shared within the community about members of Council and staff. In that light, I wish to openly provide the following statements:
- The Mayor does not direct staff on any matter. The Mayor does not direct the CAO on any matter. The Mayor, as Head of Council, presides over deliberations at the Council table. I am directed by Council during our public bi-monthly meetings. I follow the will of the majority of Council by resolution, and often by consensus at meetings. Claims that the Mayor would direct staff or myself on a specific task are false.
- I, as CAO, do not intercede in enforcement files. We have enforcement officers who have a duty to respond to complaints. They do so as peace officers and play a key role in our community. Assertions that I would have directed staff in an improper manner are false.
- With respect to the use of drones by the Municipality, my response remains the same. Municipal Council did not authorize the use of drones in any capacity. A personal drone was used by an employee in the course of his duties, as a means for efficiency. It was an honest mistake and the practice was discontinued.
The Municipality strives to conduct itself in a professional manner adhering to rules and laws that are pertinent to the areas of service. When errors occur, they are addressed. I am fortunate to work with a dedicated and motivated group of employees. I hope that the above addresses any questions or concerns.
