Ontario declares second Provincial Emergency, Stay at home order to take effect on Thursday

WEST NIPISSING, ON – The Government of Ontario has implemented a provincewide shutdown beginning at 12:01 a.m. on December 26. The shutdown is expected to look similar to the province-wide lockdown last March. Our district, along with the rest of Northern Ontario will be under shutdown for 14 days, unless extended by the province. Under the grey-lockdown level of Ontario’s COVID-19 Response Framework, restrictions include a ban on indoor social gatherings with anyone outside of your household, the closure of many non-essential businesses and most fitness facilities, as well as limiting restaurants and bars to take-out and delivery services only.

The Municipality is actively monitoring the situation and continues to follow proper protocol as per our health authorities. Residents can rest assured that we are committed to serving the public and will continue to offer essential services to our community. Updates will be shared to keep residents informed on any changes to municipal services and programs, and in the event that the lockdown is extended.

We urge our residents to continue to follow public health measures and avoid all non-essential travel, especially outside of our district. Let’s all do our part to have fun and safe celebrations this holiday. A reminder that the safest way to spend the holidays is by only celebrating in-person with the people you live with, and celebrating virtually with everyone else.

The Municipality wishes everyone healthy and happy holidays.
