Ontario Strengthens Enforcement of Stay-at-Home Order Implementing Stronger Enforcement, Travel Restrictions, Public Health Measures to Stop the Spread of COVID-19 and Save Lives

For almost a year now, the West Nipissing Emergency Control Group has met on a weekly basis to develop emergency plans and ensure the safety of our community. This team of officials and key partners met by video call on Wednesday, to provide updates on the local situation of COVID-19 and discuss the planning for vaccination sites.

As a result of the emergency planning session, the Municipality is postponing the opening of the Fitness Centre and Pool until further notice. Plans are underway to utilize the Community and Recreation Centre as a vaccination site in the coming weeks. While this news may be disappointing to members that were looking forward to using the pool and gym next week, it is a great step forward for our community. We anticipate that the closure will be in place for at least a few weeks. An update will be provided closer to the reopening of the facilities.

It is important to note that our district is not booking appointments for priority groups in phase 1 of vaccinations yet. As soon as we have more information from our Health Unit and vaccines are made available for our community, we will provide an update on when and how to book in West Nipissing.
