Notice

In the coming weeks, Council will be considering a by-law regulating Short-Term Rental Accommodations (STRAs). Members of the public are invited to review the Draft By-law for STRAs (pdf) and to provide input on the topic. Any information provided by residents will be helpful in creating a by-law that is reflective of the needs of our community.

What is a Short-Term Accommodation?
A Short-Term Rental Accommodation is a property or part of a property (apartment or room) that is rented out nightly or weekly as an alternative to traditional hotel accommodation. Some of these accommodations are advertised on websites such as Airbnb, Vrbo, Expedia, Facebook and others. Any property which is used for this purpose, whether advertised or not, is considered a short-term accommodation.

What is the purpose of the STRA by-law?
This by-law will govern the licensing and rules associated with Short-Term Rental Accommodations in West Nipissing. The proposed by-law and zoning amendments aim to assist in maintaining a balance between municipal economic prosperity, resident well-being, and addressing the housing needs of the community.
