Position: Gardening & Landscaping Volunteer
Location: Cache Bay, Crystal Falls, Field, River Valley, Sturgeon Falls, Verner
Summary: The Gardening & Landscaping Volunteer helps with gardening and landscaping in West Nipissing. This position will work with the Community Enhancement Volunteer Lead and the department of Community Services to provide support with the upkeep of municipal flower beds and park areas.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Perform various landscaping and gardening tasks, included but not limited to weeding, planting, mulching, maintaining, watering, and cleaning of flower beds, support with repainting existing infrastructure, etc.
- Report to your Community Enhancement Volunteer Lead on any changes to state of flowerbeds, parks and its infrastructure.
Requirements:
- Be able to perform physical tasks such as weeding, lifting bags of soil/mulch, watering, etc.
- Must be dependable, as well as courteous and personable with the public
- Must have a mean of transportation
Time Commitment:
- From early April to end of November
- A few times per week or as needed (depending on weather)
- Flexible hours
Position: Community Enhancement Volunteer Lead
Location: Cache Bay, Crystal Falls, Field, River Valley
Summary: The Community Enhancement Lead acts as liaison for community enhancement initiatives. This position will work with the department of Community Services to provide support with the upkeep of municipal flower beds and park areas. As the lead, this individual may require to coordinate work with other volunteers and act as primary point of contact between the community enhancement volunteer group and the Community Development Officer.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Act as liaison between the community enhancement group and the Municipality of West Nipissing’s Community Services department.
- Perform various landscaping and gardening tasks, included but not limited to weeding, planting, mulching, maintaining, watering, and cleaning of flower beds, support with repainting existing infrastructure, etc.
- Report to Community Development Officer on any changes to state of flowerbeds, parks and its infrastructure.
- Coordinate various tasks with other volunteers.

Position: Community Events & Programming Volunteer
Location: Anywhere in West Nipissing
Summary: The Community Events & Programming Volunteer will work with the department of Community Services to provide support with the planning and execution of annual and new events organized by the Municipality of West Nipissing. Events include, but are not limited to, the Parade of Lights, Tree Lighting Ceremony, Kids Safe Halloween, Family Day weekend activities, March Break activities, Canada Day, themed public skates, flag raising ceremonies, etc.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Assist with the planning and execution of events and programming organized by the Municipality of West Nipissing
- Attend occasional meetings with the Community Development Officers and other volunteers throughout the planning phases
- Actively promote Municipal events and programming
- Attend events on-site and be available to help with specific tasks
- Coordinate various tasks with other volunteers
Requirements:
- A reliable and dependable team leader
- Strong project management skills and or event planning skills
- A critical thinker with an ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities and duties
- Excellent communication skills
- Community oriented & passionate about the wellbeing of our community
- Loves working with the public
- Bilingual is an asset
Time Commitment:
- Year-round, as events and programming happen throughout the year
- Approximately 5 hours per month or as needed
- Volunteers set their own time based on their availability
To ensure a diverse and inclusive environment, when selecting successful applicants, the Community Services team will consider representatives from various race, religion, gender, gender identities or expressions, sexual orientation, national origin and disabilities.
Successful applicants will be assigned based on skills, preferences and the needs of the municipal volunteer group.
