The Municipality of West Nipissing wishes to provide an accurate update regarding the recent water service interruption in Verner that occurred from July 27 to 30.

During the incident, all key municipal departments maintained close, ongoing communication internally and with the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit), coordinating their efforts to manage the situation effectively.

On Sunday, July 27, the Fire Chief, the Manager of Water and Wastewater Operations, and the CAO were made aware of the water service interruption in Verner. In response, all key departments mobilized to restore services and coordinate communication efforts.

To provide clarity, an alarm condition was triggered at the water plant, resulting in a plant shutdown. This is a critical safeguard designed to prevent the potential distribution of untreated water. The Health Unit was promptly contacted and, as a precaution due to the temporary loss of water pressure, issued a “Do Not Drink” water advisory. Residents were informed through door-to-door notifications, and the information was shared on our municipal website, social media channels, and with local media.

The Fire Service deployed resources to supply bottled water at the Verner Fire Station on July 28 and 29. The advisory was lifted on Wednesday, July 30, after water quality testing confirmed the system was not compromised, met all regulatory standards and was safe for consumption.

The West Nipissing Fire Service was fully engaged throughout the incident, with contingency plans and alternate water sources, including river access, tankers, pumps, and support from neighbouring stations, in place. Preparing for situations where hydrants may not be operational is standard practice to ensure community safety.

The Municipality reassures the community that operational protocols and emergency response plans are effective and in place. We encourage residents to seek verified information to remain well-informed and confident that the safety and well-being of our community are our highest priorities.

Chief Administrative Officer (CAO)
