The Municipality of West Nipissing has been awarded $754,637 through the Ontario government’s Housing‑Enabling Water Systems Fund (HEWSF II) to support the Bourgault Street Water, Sanitary & Storm Upgrade project.
The project involves the replacement and expansion of a watermain, sanitary sewers, and stormwater drainage along Bourgault Street, to enhance capacity and reliability. Work is to be completed by March 31, 2028, in accordance with HEWSF II guidelines. The 2025 portion of the work involves design, which is estimated to cost $50,000. As of September 16, 2025, the design review is at sixty percent completion.
This infrastructure work aligns with the provincial aim to unlock new housing potential—HEWSF II targets projects that support up to 107,000 new homes province-wide. Launched in April 2024, HEWSF is a provincial program investing $325 million across 23 municipalities in its second intake, focusing on core infrastructure that supports housing, public health, and economic growth.
