West Nipissing Flood 2026 – Update No. 1

Recent precipitations and warmer weather are contributing to rising water levels. Residents in flood-prone areas are strongly urged to be prepared for flooding and for immediate safety action.

Please note:

  • Environmental Services:Curbside waste collection will not take place on roads that are closed.
  • Sandbags:Sandbags are available from the Field and Verner Fire stations for households in urgent need of protecting their homes or properties from critical damage.
  • Sand: Public Works continues to deliver sand to at-risk and flood-prone areas. More sand pile sites have been added – Nipissing Street (South End) and Argo Road.
  • Roads: The Public Works department is actively monitoring at-risk areas and repairing roads when possible. Road closures are updated on the municipal website as conditions change.

Updated Road Closures and Travel Advisory

Driving through flooded or water-covered roads is dangerous and unpredictable. Water levels may be deeper than they appear, and road washouts can occur suddenly. Motorists must respect all road closures and barricades and avoid travel in affected areas unless absolutely necessary.

Due to flooding and road washouts, the following closures are in effect:

  • Highway 64 (Field) – Closed between Highway 17, Sturgeon Falls and Highway 11, Marten River (closure includes Desjardins Street)
  • Leduc Road (Field) – Closed from Hwy 539 to Hwy 575
  • Prieur Road (Field) – Closed from Hwy 64 to the dead end
  • Ashburton Road (Field) – Closed from Larocque to the dead end
  • Kipling West Road (Kipling) – Closure extended from #124 to Point Road
  • Lapointe Road (Crystal Falls) – Closed

 

Updated Sand and Sandbag Information

A limited supply of sandbags is available for affected households in urgent need of protecting their homes from flooding. Residents are responsible for filling and transporting sandbags. There is a maximum of bags per household. Resident identification is required. Distribution:

  • Verner Fire Hall
  • Field Fire Hall

Public Works crews have delivered sand to the following sites:

  • Field: Jarbeau (outdoor rink)
  • Sturgeon Falls: Lac Deux Mille (near Marleau), Quesnel (west end)
  • Verner: End of Gareau Road, End of Eugene (near Arbour), Avenue du Lac, St-Jean (municipal beach), End of O’Brien Road (near Riddle Road), Cache Lake
  • Sturgeon Falls: South end of Nipissing Street, and Argo Rd.

Sandbags are also typically available for purchased at Sturgeon Falls Home Hardware, Simcoe Northern Supply, OCP Construction Supplies (North Bay) and online retailers such as Amazon.
