Internet Service Expansion Under Way in West Nipissing

The Municipality of West Nipissing is advising residents that work has begun to expand fibre optic broadband infrastructure in underserved areas of the municipality. The new fibre network will provide high-speed internet access to more homes and businesses in West Nipissing.

Cogeco and their contractor partner Lignex, are leading the construction activities, which are expected to continue over the next 12 to 18 months. As the project progresses, authorized representatives may visit eligible properties to answer questions and request permission to install a fibre service connection. Residents who have concerns are encouraged to ask anyone visiting their property for company identification.

This project is possible thanks to $1.8 billion  in funding under Ontario’s Accelerated High-Speed Internet Program (AHSIP), which aims to close the digital divide in rural, remote and underserved communities across Ontario. Led by Infrastructure Ontario, AHSIP is part of the government’s nearly $4 billion investment to ensure every community across the province has access to reliable high-speed internet by the end of 2028.

Property owners are advised that installing a fibre connection to their property is provided at no cost and does not require any obligation or commitment. Having the connection installed simply ensures the property is ready should the owner choose to subscribe to Cogeco’s internet or television services once they become available in the area.

Please note that some households will still fall outside of the fibre optic network’s reach and will not yet benefit due to current logistic and geographic limitations.
