The Canada Day fireworks scheduled this Saturday at the Sturgeon Falls beach have been cancelled due to the local fire ban and the restricted fire zone issued by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF). As per the Municipality’s Fireworks By-law 2011/47, all fireworks are prohibited during a provincial-mandated restricted fire zone.

Plans are underway to reschedule the fireworks to a later date when weather and fire regulations permit. More details will be provided in the coming weeks.

As the long weekend approaches, the public is reminded that open-air fires, including campfires and fireworks, are strictly prohibited under the Restricted Fire Zone regulations. Portable gas and propane stoves are permitted for cooking and warmth, provided users exercise extreme caution. The fire ban remains in effect until further notice.

Canada Day celebrations at the West Nipissing Community and Recreation Centre will proceed accordingly, rain or shine. The Municipality of West Nipissing is happy to partner with local groups to offer various activities and entertainment for all ages. Doors open at 11 a.m., with free admission on Saturday, July 1, 2023. This year’s event features live entertainment and music, games, face painting, a vendor market, a basketball tournament and an evening concert.
