West Nipissing Welcomes Lieutenant Governor of Ontario on Official Visit To Celebrate Francophonie Month

The Municipality of West Nipissing wast thrilled to welcome the Honourable Edith Dumont, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, for an official visit on March 23 and 24, 2026.

Ontario’s 30th Lieutenant Governor and the first Francophone to hold this role, Her Honour’s visit during Francophonie Month held special significance for the community. As one of the most Francophone municipalities in Ontario, West Nipissing takes great pride in its culture and Francophonie, which remain central to its identity and community life.

Her Honour’s time in West Nipissing unfolded over two days of meaningful connections across the community. Madame Dumont’s official visit began at the Municipal Office, where she was warmly received by Mayor Rochon, members of Council, local dignitaries, representatives of the Ontario Provincial Police, and municipal staff. She later toured the West Nipissing Community Health Centre and took part in an engaging discussion with women in diverse leadership roles. The following day was spent in local schools, where she connected with students,educators and school board officials, highlighting her commitment to education and youth. Her time in the community came to a close at Marcel Noël Hall with the Souper de la Francophonie, a community gathering hosted by Club Richelieu and Les Compagnons des Francs Loisirs.
