More than a museum

The Sturgeon River House Museum, located on the west bank of the Sturgeon River, promotes and preserves the cultural and natural heritage of the Municipality of West Nipissing. The Museum presents the fur trade era from 1623 to 1879, and pioneer life in West Nipissing between 1878 and 1939, along with cultural contributions among groups in the region.

At the Museum

Go back in time and enjoy a family picnic at the Museum’s Inner Courtyard by the Sturgeon River. Here you’ll also find LaForge Charles, a workable blacksmith shop, the Duquette Icehouse, and Maison Major, a pioneer-style home.

Take home a locally made or regionally-themed souvenir to mark your memories at the Museum’s gift shop.

Stop by for a concert, play, or one of the many fun-filled events at the Museum!

Theodore Fouriezos Wetlands Park

Explore the Theodore Fouriezos Wetlands Park – a 1-kilometre low-impact walking trail by natural cranberry bogs and scenery overlooking Lake Nipissing. Want to try something different? Rent snowshoes for the trail in the winter.

Host your next event at the Museum, or rent the Banquet Hall. Need a smaller space? The Boardroom is a great space for meetings.
